A. A little about me
Ninja for me as been the most enjoyable job I've played so far, second to warrior, I've played (in the following order to 75), White Mage, Ninja, Black Mage, Warrior, amd am currently doing Red Mage. I've pritty much done everything in this game, so my knowledge of job usage is pritty wide.
B. End Game Tanks
There are 4 tank combinitations for end-game tanks, PLD/WAR, NIN/WAR, WAR/NIN, PLD/NIN. I will rank them 1-4 in Hate, Taking Damage, Dealing Damage, and Avoiding Attacks. This is just my opinion of these. Note, Hate can be compensated by Thiefs, or Melee with Thief subjob.
PLD/WAR Hate 1+ Taking Damage 1 Dealing Damage 4 Avoiding Attacks 4
NIN/WAR Hate 4 Taking Damage 4 Dealing Damage 2 Avoiding Attacks 1+
WAR/NIN Hate 2 Taking Damage 3 Dealing Damage 1 Avoiding Attacks 3
PLD/NIN Hate 3 Taking Damage 2 Dealing Damage 3 Avoiding Attacks 2
+ Emphasis on this.
I will edit my reasoning in later.
1. Why Choose Ninja
As I said above Ninja is most enjoyable job I've played, now to answer the question why. Ninja is primerly a tank job, meaning they keep the focus of the enemies attention. Aside from being a tank, they can be effective at damage dealing, they can enfeeble, they have elemental magic, and they even have the highest DPS ranged attack. All that being considered, it can take some work to achieve goals in any of those categories.
2. Getting Parties as a Ninja.
Fortunally I had a Static party as ninja, a set time and set members. Even without that Ninja probably has one of the highest invite rates of any job, with Bard (55+) being the highest, then Red Mage. Just about all parties need a tank, exception are Monk and Black Mage parties. Ninja tanks are usually preferred to Paladin tanks because, they 'CAN' take less damage, and they usually outdamage a Paladin, remember everything is conditional.
3. What mobs to fight as/with a Ninja.
As a Ninja you want to avoid Mobs with AoE that will strip shadows. I will compose a solid list at a later point in time, but your main targets will be Crabs, Beetles, Crawlers, Bats(With Erase for Evasion Down), Spiders(If you have a competant WHM), and Toroma. -
